Maluma, pseudonym of Juan Luis Londoño Arias (Medellín, January 28, 1994), is a Colombian singer and songwriter.
he became famous in his hometown in 2011 with his singles Farandulera and Obsesión, and thanks to La Temperature and Carnaval (2014), in the rest of Latin America. His debut album, Magic (2012), was a commercial success in Colombia, and a year later, Maluma was nominated for the Latin Grammy for “Best New Artist”.
In 2015 he released his second studio album, Pretty Boy, Dirty Boy, which entered the top spot on Billboard’s main Latin album list, and from which Borró Cassette, El Perdedor and Sin contrato were drawn.
In February 2016, he participated in the “Lo Nuestro Awards” ceremony of the American network Univisión, one of his most important live performances, where he played with J Balvin the song Pa ‘Mayté in homage to the Colombian Carlos Vives and the single Desde esa noche, in which he collaborates with the Mexican singer Thalía. After the success of the single, Maluma began to be regarded as one of the “most impactful urban music” artists in Latin America.
His musical style was influenced by singer Justin Timberlake, who considers him one of the great inspirations of him as a young man. he was also influenced by Chris Brown, Jay Z, Daddy Yankee and Wisin & Yandel.
