The boy band is made up of the winners of La Banda, a talent show that aired for the first time on Univision during the month of September 2015. The boyband was formed on the day of the final of the program, December 13, during which the group received the name, which alludes to the Spanish word “Cinco” (five) and is pronounced in English “CNCO”. The band members performed on the program with other young people from Latin America and the United States in front of the three judges: Alejandro Sanz, Laura Pausini and Ricky Martin. The boys won a five-year contract with Sony Music Latin and rapper Wisin produced their first album, while Ricky Martin became their manager. The band performed the song “devuélveme mi corazòn” in the final, which included performances by Pitbull, Fifth Harmony and Wisin and a greeting video from One Direction. The boys sang the same song in Times Square during Univision’s 2016 Feliz celebration.
